Wednesday, April 13th 2005 12:06 PM | Common Scams: There are many emails scams being sent around that work the following way:
#1) You get an email from ebay, paypal, a bank, etc. It looks legit (it's not)
#2) They suggest there is some big problem with your account that needs immediate attention. (there's not)
#3) They ask you to click on one of their Links within the email to go to the site.
(the link looks right, but it's not)
#4) Even though it looks like ebay, When you log in to the site, they have just recorded your login information, and now can use it themselves.
HOW TO AVOID: If you think the email may be legit, Log into the site manually. DO NOT CLICK ON THE EMAIL LINKS. Instead, open up a new browser window and manually type in ebay.com or use an existing link. Log into their site, and see if there are any problems. If not, it was just a scam. Delete it and Ignore.
